Soft Tissue Injury

Extremity rehabilitation care focusing on arm and shoulder mobility during a chiropractic treatment session

Soft tissue injuries affect discs, ligaments, muscles and tendons, and are common following motor vehicle collisions, work injuries, and repetitive strain as a few examples. These injuries may cause pain, swelling, stiffness, and limited mobility.

Chiropractic care supports soft tissue healing by improving joint function, reducing inflammation, and enhancing circulation. Supportive care such as passive therapeutic modalities, Electrical Muscle Stimulation, ultrasound, moist heat, ultrasound, active and passive rehabilitation exercises and stretching may be used alongside adjustments.

Treatment is structured to support gradual recovery and functional improvements.

FAQ

Q1. How are soft tissue injuries different from bone or joint injuries?

A: Soft tissue injuries involve discs, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues rather than bones. They may not appear on x-ray imaging but can still cause significant discomfort and limitation.  To better evaluate soft tissue injuries, a chiropractor may order an MRI to evaluate the extent of a soft tissue injury.

Q2. Can soft tissue injuries heal without treatment?

A: Some may improve over time, but guided care can help support proper healing of tissue, possibly reduce scar tissue and may reduce the risk of long-term stiffness or dysfunction.
